Social Media wants to help … Really

If you don’t think social media is powerful or valuable, you need to get up to speed and out of the rock you are living under. As most of you already know social media is a very important tool used by many businesses today. Most business owners know social media is important, however, not all of them understand what it is and that it actually goes beyond Facebook, Twitter & Pinterest. Social media is a tool, it’s a platform to use within your marketing mix and as a tactic within your strategy. Just as you would not use a hammer for every project around your home or office, you don’t use just any social media platform for every strategy you want to implement. Use the right tool for the right job and you will receive results. Social media is just that – Social. It is not truly meant to be a standalone tactic, it works much better when integrated with other tactics – it plays better with others than alone. Here are a few steps to get you started to understanding how social media can be an integral part of your marketing strategy:

1) What do you have to say? Figure out what your company is trying to say. Do you want to impart information? Are you introducing a new product or service? Having a Grand Opening? Define what you have to say first.

2) Set a Goal. Not just any goal, like “Get in front of 300,000 people by end of the year.” And … then what? What do you want them to do? Make your goal specific, actionable and measurable.

3) Set up your vehicles. Vehicles are just another name for tactics. These vehicles are going to be what drives people to your site – your traffic. Vehicles can be traditional tactics such as post cards or flyers with your information on them and utilizing networking events in addition to setting up your social sites. Which social sites to use? Are you B2C? Facebook, Pinterest may be right for you. B2B? Linked In probably your best bet.

4) Listen. Listening in social media is more important that talking. The old adage, Listen more than you speak. It’s true today too, especially online. What are people in your community saying about your business? About you? About your industry, service or products? How can you help them? What are their pain points – what can your business help them solve? They are telling you – just listen.

5) Measure your engagement. How are your efforts paying off on your business goals? Are you now receiving more website visits? Check your Site Analytics. Are you receiving more phone inquiries or sending out more proposals? Check with your staff. Go BEYOND the click, like & follow.

We know it can be overwhelming. While repetition, repetition, repetition is still Marketing 101, now social media can help you amplify your business’ voice on the web – without being in 1,000 different places at once. You just need to find out where your customers are and go there. Pick your “social media champion” and get the word out using the winner!

April showers brings May flowers, or in this case June showers brings July flowers?

Don’t worry I am not just talking about weather in this post; more importantly I am talking about you as a person and being a late bloomer (not talking about teenage late blooming either if that’s what you’re thinking). I am talking about what is it that you want to do with your life right now in this very moment. This can apply to about any time in your life whether it be graduating from college or starting a new business; you may have no idea what you want to do or what you’re getting yourself into. For example take us here at Webizing. We started off wanting to help businesses with their strategic planning and now look where we are! I was reading the 2013 January issue of Success magazine today (I like to review, or maybe I am a bit behind in my reading) and came across an interesting read. This one was about 10 actions you can take right now to help you succeed in life. The 10 actions are:

1.     Learning experience: As in learn from your experiences. If you don’t learn from life you cannot grow as a person. There is no such thing as failure, if you take a lesson from it. It’s all a life lesson.

2.     Take a chance: Take chances and doing something new is vital to your success. Take a risk. Do something you normally wouldn’t do. Go Left instead of Right today. Sometimes, you might find that “This Left Feels Right” and you will have discovered something new.

3.     Shake away stress: Just stop what you are doing and relax. Life is too short to be stressed.Remember, Stressed is Desserts spelled backwards.

4.     Find your online niche: Find out what social media tool you use best. Tweet and Facebook away (Or Pin, Link, Video, etc)

5.     Don’t panic: Just relax. In a stressful situation try to think on the bright side and don’t let things get you worried. The sun will still rise and set tomorrow.

6.     Entice customers: Make them want your product. Get their attention by doing something creative, yet being yourself. Before anyone will purchase your product or service, they will buy you. It’s all one big game out there and if you are in business, you are playing that game.

7.     Its show time: Time to strut your stuff. Show the world what your business is made of and how you can help them. In your marketing or sales calls, find a pain point and heal it for your prospect.

8.     Make it meaningful: Don’t lie to get ahead, if you are truthful things will come to you. Make every connection count, whether you are saying “Hello” to the secretary or someone on the street; every connection can be meaningful in some way. Keep your contacts warm by choosing 1 or 2 people each day to say “hello” to or comment on something you saw in their social postings or take a colleague (or *gasp* a competitor out for coffee or lunch) Your competitors are connections too – make them feel special, change how you look at them – they are collaborators.

9.     Aim high: The bigger the better. Aim for something that will make your day. Nobody that I know of has ever aimed for the ground. You know the old adage, Shoot for the moon and even if you miss you’ll land among the stars; yeah, do that!

10.  Firm it up: finally make sure it’s something everyone will think is worthwhile. Tighten up that vocabulary and go get em. As I like to tell my clients, use your words. Keep all of your marketing/sales calls messages down to 25 words or less. This includes your goals, mission statements, etc. This allows your messaging to be Top of Mind IN YOUR mind so it can become Top of Mind for everyone else.

These 10 useful tools are a great way to implement new strategies into your small or large business. The one that stuck out to me the most was don’t panic. I have a tendency to freak out over the smallest errors or if I start to feel very overwhelmed by a big project. That is one thing that most people never keep in mind is stress, not only will it affect your work ethic it will also affect your overall well being. So remember to just relax! Whether it’s making a great deal or just typing up a blog post these can be useful tools to you. Which one(s) speak to you today?

Write to us today and let us know which actions spoke the loudest to you. We love to hear from you? Have questions about your business or marketing strategy? We love to talk business and marketing – we don’t charge and we don’t bite to talk or answer a question.

New beginnings in business & in life

January 13, 2013 1 comment

We are a couple weeks into the New Year – 2013. For me, personally, I am just shy of a month of a new beginning in my life – life without my mom. My mom died just before Christmas, her favorite holiday. Prior to that, while her health took a turn for the worse, I chose to drop what I was doing, literally and be with her. For that, my business suffered, which is to be expected; though I would not have it any other way. I can always build a new business, what I can’t do is recover time with my mom.

This post is about prioritizing your business & your life. For me, family comes first – always and in all ways. My clients are important to me, don’t get me wrong; and I do whatever I can for them. It does everyone good to remember that in the world of business they are replacable: clients, vendors, suppliers, service providers, etc. In life, you can’t replace someone in your family; there will never be another mom, dad, wife, husband, son, daughter, pet, etc. Yes, people can remarry (and often do), yes there are children born after the loss of a child, however, that new child is a miracle in their own right and not a “replacement” for the loss. Whether loss is through divorce, death or toxicity of relationship; it’s still something that can’t be replaced.

Hearts heal – ours will heal and life will go on. The new beginning we are going through will not last long, though now it feels like we won’t ever get through it, I know we will. My family, as all families, have walked this path before as we mourned losses of grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles, etc. Business heals too. Clients will come again, lessons our business has learned from this experience will be put into action, and our business will prosper again in the new year.

As we move forward in our new year and new beginning, we ask that you stay tuned as we become more active with getting out our information on digital marketing strategy and social media tools & tips. Take it one day at a time – in business and in your life; and never forget what is most important to you.

To a New Day & New Beginning.

Social Media

What could your SWOT Team solve?

Have you heard of the Rocking Horse Theory? It’s the theory that goes with moving fast is not the same as going somewhere. The theory is that rocking horses move, they can even move fast; though they are not going anywhere. I see many business owners doing the same thing. They move fast – they are the first ones out of the box to get the latest gadget, be on the newest social network, talk to the new neighbor or sign up for that “special” committee. What does all of that motion do for you?

Think about where you want to be – where you want to go. Align your actions with your goals to move forward with purpose. For example, if you want to move your business to the forefront of your neighborhood association, you might want to consider getting to know the other business owners in the neighborhood, not just the neighbors. Create your own social network – meet for coffee or wine after hours with your own focus group of business owners. Share ideas, get to know each other’s strengths & weaknesses, help each other turn weaknesses into strengths & threats into opportunities – Create your own S.W.O.T. Team! Now, THAT is Social Networking!
